Trending Choreography Recap July 9, 2024

During the trending choreography class we warmed up by doing/learning a line dance, stretched, then learned a dance from a music video or that was trending on social media. It was challenging but overall fun to learn dances that are being done by people around the world. Videos we focused on learning the choreography from included To the Moon by Meghan Trainor, yes, and? by Ariana Grande and Before I Let Go by Beyonce. Check out the playlist here

Feelings After the In-Person Practice

It was such a wonderful feeling to be in a shared physical space with the participants of my recent practice at the Grand Prairie Library. I am so thankful for the opportunity, and it has stoked the fire for an ongoing in person setting. The participants of this class had no prior experience with the type of movement I led them through, and I am so in awe of their openness to explore and be vulnerable. If you missed this class, be on the lookout for more, and feel free to join an upcoming virtual practice. Check out the playlist from the class here

Upcoming In Person Practice

Having been certified in Dancing Mindfulness in 2020, it was necessary to pivot into virtual classes after preparing to lead practices in person. After some initial resistance and hesitance I grew to love the virtual options and possibilities. I was able to interact and practice with people all over the world. But I have often been asked when, if ever, I would do in person classes. I have been looking for the appropriate setting and circumstances to do just that.

 That opportunity is here!

Join me May 9th at the Grand Prairie Main Library 901 Conover Dr, Grand Prairie, TX at 6 PM. Contact Anne-Marie to register aholstead@gptx.org

Gratitude November 17, 2022

As I prepare for this month's classes, I am struck with a gratitude that I get to do what I love in a capacity that works for me. I have been blessed to be able to interact with people from all over the world with various backgrounds especially with my Dancing Mindfulness Practice. I will be meeting a new person for Thursday's class and I am excited to see what the energy in the shared space will be during our practice.

Perseverance November 6, 2022

In October I began a dance club at my day job with middle school age children. I am excited to meet students where they are with dance e.g. TikTok dances and use this genre to help them gain skills. One recent example has been working with my club on a dance that includes technical steps and one student being doubtful that she could get the move down. The student's inclination was to just move on to another dance. I encouraged her to keep trying and she felt satisfied when she was able to get the move down. Keep trying with things become difficult. Even if its just a 15 second dance for fun.
